The Hebridean Four-Horn Working Group
Aims and Objectives for the Multi-horned Working Group
The Hebridean Multi- horn working group has been set up to investigate and promote the range of multi-horn type sheep that exist as a minority group within the Hebridean breed. The aims of the group are:
# To investigate existing multi-horned type Hebs - their numbers and percentage of the national Heb flock, registered, horn patterns, incidence and severity of split upper eyelids, any specific management problems, blood lines.
# To instigate and support scientific research into the genetics of both split upper eyelids and the multi-horned type and any relationship between the two.
# To offer support and research-based guidance and advice to breeders of multi-horned Hebs
# To support and promote these non-two horned Hebs by measures such as: ensuring they are included in HSS publicity material; finding sponsors for trophies for this group at shows; education in the relevant points of this group; ensuring frequent articles featuring these types in the society's publications; facilitating the exchange of 'for sale' information; and generally keeping them at the forefront of the society's consciousness.
# To liaise with other multi-horned sheep breeders groups, such as Jacob, Manx Loaghtan, Navajo Churro, to share information and research data.
# To report back at regular intervals to the HSS committee and membership on the progress of these aims.
