Fleece Collection Scheme, 2011

In 2010 we collected 293 kilos of Hebridean fleece, about 221 fleeces. Those members who participated in the collection scheme have been paid £2 per kilo of fleece.

Our buyer, Roger Shepley is looking to collect about 650 fleeces (500 kg), to have enough for a commercial spinning run, so we are aiming to collect another 430 fleeces or so this year.

Roger is interested in producing a natural black for his range of British worsted yarns, and will be marketing the fibre as Hebridean.
The collection is for first clip (shearling) fleeces only. Fleeces must be clean, dry, and well produced please (and no, sorry, we don't have any outlet for any other fleece at the moment).

Lisa Adams is happy for us to use her Kilby Grange Farm as a collection point again, (handyish for the M1, Leicester), but people must phone them before they turn up with fleece. To avoid the family being bothered with telephone enquiries, would anybody who has an interest in the collection please contact Caroline FitzGerald in the first instance, who will be able to provide full details of the scheme. It is also worth owners of larger flocks with a good number of shearling fleeces contacting Caroline, as Roger may be prepared to pick up direct from your farm which would improve returns for you.

Happy shearing everybody and many thanks to Lisa Adams for all her help.
