The Hebridean Four Horn Working Group

As part of your Committee's commitment to ensuring that multi-horned Hebridean sheep are properly recognised and promoted, we are inviting you to take part in a survey of the 2008 lamb crop to ascertain the prevalence of the split upper eyelid defect within our breed.

It is important that we collect as much data as possible from all members keeping muli-horned Hebridean sheep and therefore hope that you will take part in this survey.

The survey, which includes ALL of this years multi-horned lambs before any culling decisions are taken.

We will then be able to pull out some useful satistics that may help us understand more about the complex genetics of the multi-horned characteristic and the relationship with the split eyelid defect, and hopefully eventually be able to provide sound and sensible breeding advice to members and new breeders. You are not obliged to provide any registration details if you do not wish to do so, but you have the Committee's assurance that the information provided will be confidential and will only be used for this survey and for further reasearch that may arise from the analysis of the results.

Below you will find a copy of the leaflet that will provide you with guidance on determining the Eye Lid Categories and Horn Patterns to help you in your judgements. There is also a copy of the survey recording form for you to complete and return to our secretary Helen Brewis either by email or 'snail' mail. Details of Helens address can be found in the Hebridean Members Handbook and her email address is:
